SANDRA’S WEDDING – Live in Concert. Sunday 12 October at 6.30pm (doors 6pm)
“Sandra’s Wedding area band whose modest street level persona is something that deeply resonates with the devoted few. The stories dotted throughout their sixth long-player, Arturus Rex, not only ones that ring true, but the boon for Sandra’s Wedding is they actually mean them. Beyond the bullshit PRs and social media metrics, it’s quite clear this band aren’t in ‘the game.’
It’s strictly all about the music. Like kindred spirits, Sea Power, this is how cult bands are born, and Sandra’s Wedding have carved out their own part of the world, and in doing so, strengthen the cultural fabric.” Simon Kirk, Sun13.
2026 will be the tenth for Sandra’s Wedding. Over that time they have built a loyal following and earned respect from fans and fellow musicians alike for their work ethic, vision and respect for music as a means to celebrate community and creativity. As middle age beckons, the band are keen to now build on a musical maturity which has come into full and glorious bloom in their latest release, Arturus Rex.
The sixth album from Sandra’s Wedding is undoubtedly their most ambitious to date. Looking to stretch their wings and explore a new musical pallette, the Yorkshire band have committed a huge amount of energy, time and resource to forge an album they hope will stand the test of time.
Charting the course through one day as a new father, Arturus Rex celebrates life’s great milestones whilst casting an eye over the whirwind of different emotions which come with hitting early middle-age. As loyal devotees to the album as an art form, Sandra’s Wedding approached this record as a wholistic project. In a world where ten second clips and instant gratification are seemingly king, putting forward a collection of songs to be heard together could be seen as a radical creative statement, or the signing of a death warrant.
TIM CROOKS (Royal Northern Sinfonia, Manchester Camerata, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, The Philharmonia, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Kaleidoscope Orchestra) was brought in by the band to write six original arrangements for string quartet.
“It was great to work with Sandra’s Wedding on their album, Arturus Rex. The guys gave both clarity of thought and freedom for me to try different things with the writing – this amount of trust is rarely offered to collaborators, but when it is it leads to the most fruitful of artistic exhanges. I feel the finished record really reflects this.”
NATALIE PURTON (Up North Session Orchestra) led the quartet for the recording sessions in York’s Young Thug’s Studios.
“We loved every minute of our session with Sandra’s Wedding/ It was fantastic to work with such a creative band, and amazing to be in Young Thug’s studio for the first time.”
