PLAINSONG Live in concert – 11 December 6pm

Plainsong Fly Again at The Pigeon Loft

It’s fifty years this year since Plainsong released their beautiful album In Search of Amelia Earhart. In the time since then both the group and the album have achieved iconic status. The band thrived on exquisite harmony and sublime musicianship and the album received universal acclaim. Sadly, the original group disbanded after just one year, but have occasionally come back together around founders Iain Matthews and Andy Roberts to rediscover those lovely harmonies. To celebrate their half century, the surviving members are undertaking a short winter tour and we’re proud to announce that one of their concerts will take place at The Pigeon Loft right here in Pontefract.

Iain Matthews was an original member of Fairport Convention before forming Matthews Southern Comfort and having an international number one with Joni Mitchell’s song ‘Woodstock’. After Plainsong disbanded, Iain moved to America and throughout the 1970s he was a part of the California singer songwriter scene. These days he continues to live the life of the troubadour from his base in Holland.

Andy Roberts helped Iain to form Plainsong back in 72. He previously worked with the much-missed Liverpool Scene alongside the poet Adrian Henri and was guitarist on Pink Floyd’s The Wall tour. Andy is without doubt amongst the finest folk-rock musicians the UK ever produced.

Tickets for this one-off show are strictly limited, you are advised to book early for what promises to be one of those not to be missed experiences at The CAT Club/Robin Hood.

‘Plainsong was the closest the UK ever came to producing a rival to the Flying Burrito Brothers and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, a gloriously harmonic marriage of olde English folk, Appalachian gospel and dustbowl travelogues.’ Record Collector
